What is Maritime Atlas?

Maritime Atlas is a map-based learning atlas built for MBA maritime management students. Explore major world and Indian ports, trace shipping routes, canals, straits and chokepoints, test yourself with locate-the-port practice, and track your progress with a spaced-revision schedule.

The idea emerged from a simple observation in the classroom: students pursuing Maritime Management often come from different academic, professional, and industry backgrounds. As a result, their familiarity with global ports, shipping routes, maritime geography, Indian coastal connectivity, and inland waterways can vary considerably.

Maritime Atlas was created to bridge this learning gap through an interactive, map-based approach.

Under the Umbrella of GMU Centre for Maritime Logistics

Maritime Atlas is developed under the academic umbrella of the Centre for Maritime Logistics at Gujarat Maritime University (GMU), Gandhinagar, Gujarat, India.

The Centre for Maritime Logistics at GMU is dedicated to advancing knowledge and research in maritime supply chains, port management, shipping logistics, and coastal connectivity. It serves as a hub for academic excellence, industry collaboration, and innovative learning tools that prepare students for the evolving global maritime landscape.

Through initiatives like Maritime Atlas, the Centre aims to make maritime geography and port knowledge more accessible, interactive, and practically relevant for students from diverse academic and professional backgrounds.

The Learning Philosophy

Students can learn about a port, locate it on the map, mark it for future reference, understand its maritime connections, and revisit it through quizzes and revision.

The goal is not simply to memorize port names. The goal is to help students understand where ports are, why they are important, how they connect with other ports, and how they fit into the wider maritime transportation network.

Maritime Atlas is a student-driven learning initiative developed under the Centre for Maritime Logistics at Gujarat University, Gandhinagar, with the vision of making maritime geography more accessible, interactive, and useful for students from diverse backgrounds.
